# Intro This is a new kickstarter launching in Mid August from the Dungeon Dudes. It is a sourcebook and gazetter of the World of Drakkenheim. Almost none of the book will be available for this current campaign - except that they are releasing the playtest for the [[Character Options#Apothecary|Apothecary]] Class and the various subclasses created for the book. The suggested timeline for this is a first playtest in October 2022 of the Apothecary and a set of new spells. Then a playtest in November 2022 of the various subclasses. ## Use of the Playtest Material I am opening up the playtest material from [[Sebastian Crowe's Guide to Drakkenheim]] for our Dungeons of Drakkenheim Campaign. This is of course with the understanding that playtest material is open to change and might need tweaking if it is undercutting the fun at the table. Using the retraining rules in [Tashas' Cauldron of Everything](https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/tcoe/character-options#ChangingYourSubclass), and our own homebrew [[Character Options#Retcon|Retconning]] rules you will be able to switch to one of these when they are released later this year. For the purposes of character creation and design please see the notes below on the various subclasses and the apothecary class. This is all of the information available at the moment and it will be updated as new details are released. # Apothecary An intelligence-based spellcasting class inspired by the doctors, occultists and mad scientists of cosmic horror fiction. Apothecaries combine medical knowledge with arcane magic: their eldritch methods can heal, transform or protect their allies, but their deadly techniques can harm and kill their enemies. Indeed an apothecary understands how the difference between a poison and a cure lies often only in the dose! This intelligence based spellcaster uses their medical expertise, knowldge of the body and soul, their occult practices, [[#esoteric theories]] and alchemical supplies to create magic. Magic designed to harm their foes and heal their friends. They have a spellcasting progression slightly stronger than the warlock but with similar mechanics and can choose from over forty Esoteric Theories to further customize your character as you gain levels. ## Subclasses ### Alienist The alienist is a mentalist and parapsychologist; they gain a pool of psychic points that they can use to augment their spells or use unique psychic abilities. An Alienist can use their psychic points to gain firm control of their foes mind by debuffing their saving throws or adding additional psychic damage to their spells. In addition an Alienist can gain powerful telekinetic abilities allowing them to teleport and fly. This subclass brings Eleven and Jean Grey to life as an Apothecary. ### Chemist The Chemist is the classic mad scientist; a great blaster spellcaster who is great at using chemical knowledge to blow things up. The chemist expands the apothecary spell list gaining access to more destructive elemental spells like fireball and ice storm which are not normally available to other apothecaries. The chemists can really take these spells to the next level as a blaster, able to cause chain reactions and even weave the spells around their allies. Eventually the chemists can even store spells into bottles allowing them to use them as additional spell slots or hand them off to allies to throw onto the battlefield. ### Exorcist The exorcist is the expert in supernatural elements and demonic possessions they're able to thwart ghosts ghouls and demons at every turn using abilities that allow them to drive away such creatures or even stop possession in its tracks. An Exorcist can not only commune with, channel and drive off evil spirits, the exorcist has a really unique ability known as negation which allows them to interrupt and counter any monster ability whether or not it's a spell a breath weapon or any sort of unique power that a thing like a vampire or a demon might have. Whatever it is they can interrupt that monster's power causing them to lose the ability as long as they fail they're saving throw. ### Pathogenist Master of Disease, poison and acid. Doubling down on the damage dealing capabilities of the Apthocary base class. Add mutant strains to your poison and disease causing spells. Very strong because their poisons and diseases supercede many class and monster type restrictions. The pathogenesis can also spread their diseases much quicker or hit multiple targets with their spells so as you progress in levels your pathogens are going to get more powerful and the ways that you can augment your spell casting become more plentiful ### Reanimator Victor Frankenstien creating his corpse rot creature. The Creature is a loyal minion stitched together from the corpses recovered from the morgue. The corpse rot creature is your loyal companion in battle who you can actually heal with your electrical magic. As your Reanimator gain levels you gain the ability to modify and build up your corpse rot creature. Leaning on the themes of HP Lovecraft and Shelley, you can gain a severed head that you can use as a spell casting focus as well so there's some really fun necrotic elements happening with the reanimator. ### Mutagenist Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde or the Hulk and Bruce Banner. This apothecary gains a transmogrifying elixir, a special potion that they can drink on the battlefield to turn into a raging hulking monster. When you drink this elixir your strength score and your intelligence score get swapped. The Mutagenist empowers their transmogrifying elixir by using one of their spell slots and what the level of the spell slot actually affects how powerful your unarmed strikes in your mutant form are. As you gain levels you'll be able to add the dna of dragons and giants into your transmogrified form to take on their abilities. When you start out as a Mutagenist, you can't concentrate on spells while you're in your transmogrified form but at higher levels you can choose to have the big brain genome that allows you to now concentrate on a spell while you're transformed. In the true fashion of the incredible hulk if you are knocked to zero hit points while you are in your transmogrified form you stand up as your normal self kind of in a bit of a daze but still able to fight. ## Esoteric Theories A core mechanic of the Apothecary, you gain a new Esoteric Theory every other level.
